Something to think about:

The average NA car driving 10,000 miles per year releases 5.5 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere!

Scientists are now saying that ice in the ocean in the summer will soon be something found in the history books.

Fear and feeling overwhelmed are keeping some of us from doing all that we can in our lives to make a difference, to contribute to this global movement toward positive change, greening businesses and our homes. It can be scary and some of the "green" technology is way beyond the budget for most of us.... However, the little things, the every day things are what really add up to huge change.

Recycling alone is a huge step toward change. By participating, you are creating jobs for your community, for your nation. Businesses benefit from a reliable source of materials, in fact businesses are sprouting up all the time with new innovations that reuse "waste". We also prevent further damage to the planet from mining raw resources. It is win, win, win - and you can save money too! Many regions are able to keep down their garbage collection costs because of recycling efforts - landfill contributions are getting more expensive for municipalities, especially if they are looking at finding new landfill sites. Did you know that recycling can reduce your contributions to the landfill by at least 30%? In some regions, depending on the recycling system available, this number can be much higher.

Landfills have about 42% organic content... content that is so very valuable to keeping our soil healthy if it would have been composted properly instead. Content that could have been recycled when it was still clean and released back into society as a new product, creating jobs along the way. Instead it rots anaerobically in the landfill, releasing toxic waste and methane - which is said to be anywhere between 22 and 70 times more destructive than carbon dioxide.

So PLEASE recycle every single scrap of paper, every tin can, every plastic bag... those from our homes, offices... stuff we've cleaned up around our property - anywhere we are... whatever we are doing, we can keep this in mind.

Organics - well you know I could go off on organics for quite a while, being a passion of mine - but organics is so valuable to our soil... to the nutrition in our crops. It is so easy to compost. There are units available for condo dwellers, apartment dwellers, and homes... there are also units available for restaurants and cafes. For businesses, this would be a great way to get exposure in the community; press, schools and environmental groups would love to hear about green initiatives and perhaps inquire about touring the site or write about it in their publications. For the those with homes and yards, composting can be as easy as having a couple small wooden bins that you turn once in a while with a shovel or a fork. These can be harvested up to twice a year. The compost can be placed in your gardens or landscaping or hanging baskets - or given to someone who has these items. Alternatively, spread the compost on your yard and around your trees. By composting alone the average individual, can reduce our own contributions to the landfill by another 30%.

So between these two simple acts we can easily reduce our waste by 60% simply by using the systems that are already in place. What if we added water conservation, energy conservation, green consumer methods, gardening or reuse on that list... can you imagine now the impact you can have? It really is amazing when we think about it... and it doesn't cost you anything at all - in fact you'll SAVE money!

Pick up a copy of our book Trash Talk - in this book you'll find information about the recycling industry, you'll see just how much of an impact you can have as an individual, and you'll learn hundreds of ways to reuse items before placing them in the recycling or garbage bin. If you have a hot water tank, a furnace, or pay for your water - this book will help you save money. Have appliances? Learn how to run them more efficiently and what to look for when purchasing new appliances. We also offer 140 resources at the end of the book for you to look up on your favorite browser for more information about crafts involving reuse, composting, organic gardening and more.

Paralyzed from the waist down with a spinal cord injury, Rossetti looked deep within herself and found new strength and new resolve. In her keynote speeches, she shares the lessons she has learned since that fateful day, and demonstrates how to rise above misfortune and live life with conviction.
