Interviews !

-- Quote of the Day --  “I had the misfortune of a stroke and then cancer – one of the things that happened to me was that I couldn’t find a job, and I was quite discouraged. We found Max and adopted him, and he really ‘recycled’ me. …What I’ve come to realize that while maybe the things I did seemed important – I was totally replaceable. But when I walk in the door and Max looks at me – I know that I am not replaceable. …The human companion gets so much more back than what we can give to the dog. …We believe there is a connection between a person who litters or people who don’t think about their animals is that they leave their mess for someone else to clean up. …5000 dogs a day in the US alone are euthanized; the good news is that there is more awareness about this problem and more organizations and tools available. …The majority of dogs and cats that are put down is simply because there are not enough resources and they don’t have a home. …A puppy mill might breed a son and a s

World of Writing, Interview

-- World of Writing, Interview -- How do you handle a situation when you know someone hasn’t told the truth? What do you do when you see a little girl without a coat in the cold of winter? Where do flowers go when they disappear? What do you do when your feet don’t reach the floor?    Author Mary Adkinson – a.k.a. Gma Mary – has, as a mother of 6 , with 17 grandkids and 6 1/2 great-grandkids , a lot of experience in reading to and teaching children . Prior to retirement, Mary worked as a Doctor of Optometry, but upon retirement she felt the time was right to delve into her passion – writing. The Growing Up With Princess Lizzy stories were originally written for one of her granddaughters. The spark for producing those stories in a published book came from her son who felt it was important for Mary to share them with other young people, and, those just young at heart. Of Media and Animals

-- Quote of the Day -- “…There was a while where I thought I’d never blog – I was a freelance writer, and felt there was no money in blogging. After 9-11 the journalism market really took a hit, but I wanted to keep writing every day – so I thought …I could come up with an endless supply of animal story ideas. …The focus I felt was most important was to highlight the people who are making a difference in the animal world. …I’m in touch with people all the time who are involved with rescue and those, to me, are my heroes. …The first thing is to get your pet from the local animal adoption or rescue center. …The other thing is to spay and neuter your pet. …you can call the local hotel or look in your own closet to see if you have some old towels; or drop into the center and see if you can spend time with the animals – you know, pet some cats. It really does make a difference. ” ~ Michele Hollow Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episo

Positive News !

-- Quote of the Day --  “Just because the solutions of problems are not visible at any particular time does not mean that those problems will never be alleviated – or confined to tolerable dimensions. History has a way of changing the very terms in which problems operate and of leaving them, in the end, unsolved to be sure, yet strangely deflated of their original meaning and importance.” ~ M. Tips to Minimize the Impact of Your Holiday The world’s a very big place, so it’s no surprise that we want to explore at least some of it. However, with most countries now accessible to us and with the influx of tourists to previously untouched places, this has implications for the local environment and its communities. The issue of responsible travel is something that we all should be thinking about before we even book our holiday. Whether you choose to travel with a company who prides itself on its eco-friendly principles and approach, or choose to go it alone, the following suggestions can help to reduce your impact. Consider travel options Everyone has heard about the importance of reducing their carbon footprint, but unfortunately  air travel  is probably the b

Referral Corner

-- Quote of the Day --  “What are we passionate about? What brings us Joy? What is going to make us happy? …So for all of us the answers will be different. …I am very strong on the side of giving people the opportunity to look at and list what they are up against and take that into account when they set their goals. …Some people will give up – they take what they have got as their lot in life. – Rather than paint the picture as an all or nothing, you know ‘I failed’ or ‘there must be something wrong with me’ is to do a clinical diagnostic: ‘what about this still matters to me; what really went wrong here; was there something I could have done differently’. …You are not doing this to beat up on yourself, but so that you can learn something. Look at this as a source of information. …I try to eliminate the word balance because it feels like we are taking time away from something in order to do something else. …Instead it should be more prioritizing what is most im

Writing, Creativity

-- Quote of the Day --  “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.” ~ Steve Jobs -- Conscious Discussions Talk Radio -- * Airs live @ 10-11 AM (Pacifc)  - all episodes are archived indefinitely within moments after they air live

responsible, sustainable society

-- Quote of the Day --  “Have the children put down their goals academically, socially and what they want to accomplish and then put down detail plans as to what they are going to do to make those things happen. …Without actual detail plans those goals are just daydreams. If they don’t succeed – so be it – but at least they had a detailed plan for their goals and they tried to reach them. It is very important to be honest with themselves and be willing to adjust (reach out for help) constantly. …Listen before you speak; sometimes you have to walk out of the room… or count to ten or thirty before responding. Realize that teenagers especially are going to fly off the handle – you have to not react… don’t try to diffuse the tantrums when they are in that state of mind, it just won’t work. …Let them know that mistakes are good – that is how you learn in life – have an open dialogue and listen to what they are not saying, this is just as important.” ~ Michael
