It can get boring, and it can suck the life right out of a person, effectively killing their spirit and leading to depression. Every person needs a little bit of nurturing once in a while. Close the laptop and head off to a local spa or be more budget friendly and go with a do it yourself manicure, pedicure and bubble bath while watching a favorite movie. Whether it is a massage, spa day at the house or shopping spree at the mall, just remember that everyone deserves a treat every once in a while, and it will help keep spirits high.

Helping other people can instantly make a person feel better. When an individual helps to brighten someone else's day, it often brightens their day in return. This could be volunteering at the local soup kitchen once a week, or it could be something on a larger scale.

Whatever the motto is, the fact is that when people look better, they wind up feeling better.

Use a combination of these ideas to start feeling better faster. For example, put together a cute outfit and volunteer at an SMO clinical research company. The loss of a dear friend









I lament the loss of a very dear friend, who passed recently. My heart aches for the loss of her presence in my life. I love her dearly. J.D. (using initials for privacy purposes) brought comfort and empathy wherever she went. I will remember her as a generous, kind, giving, hard working, proactive, genuine, gentle woman. She did so much for the communities that she lived in... not just through volunteering but through her presence. I will miss her, my friend, and my heart aches for her loved ones.

J.D. volunteered or became involved with environmental groups from all over the world. She donated her time to numerous community events from theater productions to community gardens and harvest sharing. She also volunteered and did work with Creston’s literacy group, Granby Wilderness Society, PAWS, local classrooms, and a wide variety of projects via the local Native Indian band... to name a few. She was a caring gardener of plants, rescuer of animals and a caregiver to fellow beings.

Many of her friends will remember her interest in making natural products, in harvesting native plants, in utilizing “weeds” to make incredible salves. People have said they remember her as always smiling, how she faced many health issues with integrity – and as I recall, she had such bravery facing all she did. She enjoyed yoga, hand drumming, the arts, language and nature. Her art graces many native drums, buildings and more. We will always cherish the drum J.D. and her husband made for us.



J.D. made me want to become a better person. She was a mentor to me – I looked up to her many positive attributes. I will cherish our visits and the challenge she set out for us all, simply by living her life the way she did – the challenge to be better people, to care and get involved with our community, to stand up for what is right, and to do what we can in our own daily life to leave a more positive imprint.

The sun dimmed for me the day I learned of her passing… the morning after a dream about her that I was trying, but failing, to remember. It turns out many people said she appeared in their dreams when this happened. She was a part of so many peoples’ lives. The world is lessened by the loss of her presence – however it was graced by every day of her life.

After some time for initial grief, I realized something. There was a time when I was cut off from the world emotionally; I didn’t want to connect because I was afraid to hurt. Every time I lost someone it hurt so much I became afraid to feel that way again, to be vulnerable. Losing J.D. is very painful, but you know – I feel blessed to have known her. To have had her in my life and I realize that being in pain and vulnerable can have a positive side too. How glad I am to have met her. Thank you J.D. for being in my life.

Going to job interviews always makes people nervous. Maybe you've been to a few job interviews but never got the job offer.

This is just so soul-destroying, right? But have you ever taken the time to figure out why you're not getting the jobs?

The job market in the 21st century is tough, and if you're not fully prepared for your job interview, then another candidate will get the job offer... it's just that simple.

But don't get too disheartened as there are lots of things you can do to improve your performance for your next job interview.

With so many graduates flooding the job market, it's easy to feel under pressure to sell yourself and convince the hiring managers YOU are their perfect candidate.
But sometimes if you're against other job candidates on the day, what can actually swing the hiring managers decision is the questions the candidates asked at the end of the job interview.

Just think, this may influence their decision if all the candidates are as good as each other.

OK, so let's look at some of the questions who should be asking to show your interest and get you some brownie points with the interviewers.
Most companies include a lot of information about the job role in the job advert or in the job description, so it makes sense NOT to ask a question regarding what they have already provided you with.

It also goes without saying that you shouldn't be discussing salary or vacation time as that is a BIG RED FLAG for recruiters, they want to be convinced you're keen to work for their company, not just what they pay you.

If they haven't already specified the actual days you'll be working then it's fine to ask them give you some indication of which days of the week you'll be expected come to work. You do have a life outside work after all!

Question 1

"If I was successful in my application which days of the week will I be requested to work?"

Asking about the company's future plans for expansion is always a positive sign you are interested in staying around for a while if you're offered the job.

Question 2

"I've research the company and gained a great deal of knowledge, but could you tell me if you have any plans to expand in the future?"

Another good question to show your interest is asking how this vacancy came about. It could be someone left or that team is actually expanding.

Question 3

"I'd be very interested to know how this vacancy came about?"

You may want to ask about promotion and development opportunities in the organization and add how you are keen to get on and move forward in your career, so consider also asking the next question:

Question 4

"I'm interested in developing my career and should I be lucky enough to be successful, can you tell me more about your training schemes?"
